PFC Ison, Paul was 28 years old with four kids and joined the Unites States Marine Corps to defend his country. Assigned to 1st Marine Division Private First Class PaulE. Ison shown above running through Japanese Machine gun fire known as Death Valley Okinawa. May 10th 1945. Defying death valley three times to get the much needed explosives for a demolition of an enemy bunker.
On this day in a eight hour period there where reported 125 casualties crossing death Valley. over all American Casualties amounted to 7,374 Killed 31,807 wounded,239 missing in action. 36 US ships sunk 368 damaged763 aircraft lost to all causes, 4,907 seamen killed or missing in action and 4,824 wounded. in the Battle of Okinawa
despite heavy losses the Japanese suffered even grater causalities.
